Space City Sound
Space City Sound® Chorus (SCS) is a Houston, Texas-based mixed harmony organization. SCS is part of the Houston Metro chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society.
History
Officially, Space City Sound® Chorus is the Houston Metropolitan Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Initially, the chorus began as a collaborative effort of singers, sharing the roles of director among themselves while the search committee looked for a full-time director. By the spring of 2016, Matt Swann was called to be the director of the chorus. The chorus chartered with The Barbershop Harmony Society in April of 2017.
Members of the Space City Sound have appeared on the international stage with quartets and chorus such as Ohana Means Family, the 2016 4th Place Bronze Medalist Quartet in the YBQC, and The Westminster Chorus.
Since their inception, Space City Sound has grown in both quality number of singers. In July 2018, Space City Sound debuted on the International Chorus Contest stage and were ranked 14th Place in the world. Then, after a unanimous vote on February 22nd 2019, Space City Sound ruled to change from a male-only organization to one that accepts membership from all genders.
